Project Overview
A work in progress; "Insides" currently is a technical proof of concept, the form precedes the content. The images being used at the moment are just test data, but the idea would allow for using medical cross sections so that the viewer is more grounded in viewing something like a body, but to then bring in other imagery or notes into it that signify the things that are within us that might be discovered if we were able to take a cross section of our selves.
I'm interested in the wonder of the mental process of discovery, like medical imaging that allows you to see beneath the surface, this pieces looks to explore the 3D space but through a 2D image, by taking splices through a 3D image.
The viewer then has to reconstruct the sequence of images to rebuild the context of what it is they're seeing.
This provides a restricted way seeing that brings a tension between the unknown and ordinarily unseeable, and the magic that comes from penetrating the surface and seeing through solid objects to the internals. "Insides" takes the fascination of discovering the inner workings, much like medical processing machines, and builds something that is framed in the familiar but allows for an element of otherness to surprise, or delight the viewer.
